1.2.2.3 Is it clear who is involved?

1.2.2.4 Is it clear where this will happen?

1.2.2.5 Is it clear what needs to happen?

1.2.3 Specific

1.2.3.1 Specify what the objective needs to achieve

1.2.3.2 Being specific increases the chances of success as compared to a general goal

1.2.4 Measurable

1.2.4.1 When you measure your progress, you are more likely to stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the feeling of achievement when you accomplish your objective.

1.2.4.2 Answer:

1.2.4.2.1 How much? How many? How will I know when it is accomplished?

1.2.4.2.2 How will I know that the change has occurred?

1.2.4.2.3 Can these measurements be obtained?

1.2.4.3 Example:

1.2.4.3.1 Sell 3000 units per month, which equates to approximately 7% market share.

1.2.5 Achievable

1.2.5.1 Are the objectives you set, achievable and attainable based on the skills you have and the constraints imposed?

1.2.5.2 Answer:

1.2.5.2.1 Can we get it done in the proposed timeframe?

1.2.5.2.2 Do I understand the limitations and constraints?

1.2.5.2.3 Can we do this with the resources we have?

1.2.5.2.4 Has anyone else done this successfully?

1.2.5.2.5 Is this possible?

1.2.5.3 Example:

1.2.5.3.1 Taking into account primary and secondary research and facts from our market share data we believe the objectives set are achievable.

1.2.6 Realistic

1.2.6.1 Set realistic objectives that you can accomplish with the resources you have available.

1.2.6.2 Answer:

1.2.6.2.1 Do you truly believe that it can be accomplished?

1.2.6.2.2 Have you accomplished anything similar in the past?

1.2.6.2.3 Do you have the resources available to achieve this objective?

1.2.6.2.4 Do I need to revisit priorities in my life to make this happen?

1.2.6.2.5 Is it possible to achieve this objective?

1.2.6.3 Example:

1.2.6.3.1 Considering the amount of financial and human resources available we we believe that objectives set are realistic.

1.2.7 Time-bound

1.2.7.1 Set target start and finish dates for all objectives.

1.2.7.2 Answer:

1.2.7.2.1 When will this objective be accomplished?

1.2.7.2.2 Is there a stated deadline?

1.2.7.3 Example:

1.2.7.3.1 It is the expectation that the 7% market share objectives set will be achieved by the end of Dec 31st 2009.

1.2.8 Extending:

1.2.8.1 Stretch your capabilities or make a significant contribution to the mission and purpose of the organization.

1.2.9 Rewarding:

1.2.9.1 Know what it will mean and what will result from a full effort in completing the goal.
